The Challenge
Before our intervention, OHM struggled with scaling their infrastructure to handle millions of historical vector tiles and concurrent edits. The system was prone to downtime during high-traffic events, and the rendering pipeline was inefficient for time-based data queries.
Our Solution
We re-architected the entire stack using Kubernetes, implementing a custom vector tile generation pipeline optimized for historical data with time-dimension support. We migrated the database to a high-availability PostGIS cluster and implemented advanced caching strategies using Varnish and CDN.
Key Results
- 99.9% uptime during global mapathons
- 50% reduction in tile rendering time
- Seamless integration with JOSM and iD editor
