SavePics: Face Recognition in the Browser
Face detection and grouping by person that runs fully in the browser, inside our photo product.
The Challenge
SavePics users keep their photos in their own cloud account. Sending those photos to a server for face recognition would break that privacy promise.
Our Solution
We run the models on the user's device with ONNX Runtime Web inside a Web Worker. SCRFD detects faces, MobileFaceNet turns each face into a 512-dimension embedding, and cosine similarity groups the faces by person.
